Jordan's Journey

The story of Jordan Vincent, cancer slayer, as told by her father Laurence Vincent

Restart

Tomorrow, she starts again. Early in the morning, she’ll have her breakfast, stay in her pajamas and ride with her mom to Children’s Hospital to resume chemotherapy. She had a nice break for the holidays, and particularly enjoyed her time away from the needle. But it’s time to start again.Share on Facebook

Observations

She has a smile that strikes you when you’re in the middle of exhaling and leaves you gasping for air. Sometimes, I watch her and she appears to move in slow motion. The gentle crinkles of her smiling mouth barely change the shape of her face. Her cheeks rise just enough to cast a light [...]

The Trooper

She resumed chemotherapy on Monday after a three-week break. She was anxious about starting up again, but the anxiety never spoiled her otherwise genial mood. We often say, “Jordan gets it done.” And indeed she does. It doesn’t matter how much she may complain, lash out, or fret, she always does what is needed to [...]

Jordan’s Podcast, Episode 3

Jordan’s been begging to lay down a new podcast, so without further ado … here it is.Share on Facebook

To Dodge a Curse

We savored every last bite of our Mexican food before making our way to the patio to carve the pumpkins. Luc was already in his costume, a white t-shirt inscribed with a self-designed iron-on that read “this is my Halloween costume. Deal with it.” Jordan was halfway through her transformation into the Princess Aurora from [...]

The Bundle of Energy

She bounced into the room wearing her complete collection of cardinal and gold. Behind her, on the television, USC had just kicked off its home game against Washington State. Jordan rolled her arms and shouted out to rally support from the living room audience, proudly showing off her USC sweatshirt. – Give me a U! [...]

Update: We received the results from Jordan’s latest MRI yesterday. Her condition is stable. While it’s not great news, because we’d love to see some progress, the whole family was filled with a sense of forboding that we’d see new growth … and we didn’t … so there’s actually a feeling of relief.Share on Facebook

chilling at the W

Jordan and Jeanette soak up sun with the rest of the beautiful people at the W. It was time for a break. Nearly twelve weeks of uninterrupted chemotherapy, a long summer, and a career change (I’m starting a new job in a week) demanded a week to just do nothing. The family needed to retreat [...]

Number Nine

She turned nine yesterday. She bolted into our bedroom first thing in the morning, legs leaping out in front of her. – Do you know what today is? You have to guess. I stirred. Jeanette didn’t. – Is it your birthday? – Yes, it is! She climbed onto the bed. Jeanette turned over, squinting from [...]

Boomtown Mondays

–What day is it? Her eyes squinted off into a distant place, as though she were trying to recall a calendar page and picture it in front of her. She brushed her hair back from her face in a haphazard, distracted manner reflective of her intense concentration. –It’s Sunday, sweetie. She was quiet for a [...]
